CHAPTER ELEVEN

Ian

Anger twists through my belly. I stomp downstairs as Eric steps from his office. His deep frown warns me I’m still in trouble.

“Have you consummated?”

Heat fills me. “Jesus, dad, I was only up there for a few minutes.”

“Get it done. She won’t be safe—hell, we won’t be safe if you don’t.”

“I’m not raping her.” Why couldn’t I have been happy with a simple woman who would just do what I want?

Eric takes two steps, closing the distance. “If you don’t seal the deal, others will.”

There was a reason I moved out. My parents didn’t beat me, and I wasn’t abused, but my dad didn’t keep his fingers out of my life. I get it. I want to be a part of the Scorpio Society, which will be dangerous. Living in my own place has helped, but there is no way I can keep Delilah in my apartment. If I rent a house for a month, we’ll have privacy. She might run, so I’ll have to ask my father for a few guards.

I close my eyes, wondering if this will ever end. Gerald Eaton is a madman. If she ends up back at his house, he’ll kill her. The man is unhinged, delusional, dangerous. I have to protect her.

“If you put our family at risk, I will end you. Get up there and get it done.” Eric storms off, leaving fury behind in his wake.

Valery is in the kitchen, sipping a cup of tea at the table. She looks serene, but her gaze follows me like a heavy judgment. I turn and lean against the counter, crossing my arms over my chest and legs at my ankles.

“Are you going to tell me I did the wrong thing?”

She sets her teacup down on the matching saucer, then looks up and meets my gaze. “Delilah has bruises all over her body. She thinks I didn’t see, but I did.”

Anger slides through me. “I know.”

“And those scars?”

I blow out a breath wishing none of this had happened. I can’t comprehend what Delilah actually went through. The last thing I want to discuss with Valery is Delilah’s body. But here we are, about to have this discussion.

“She’s wild, you know. She’s not a sweet young girl you can model or shape.”

No good will come from me snapping at her. My father may rule the house, but one word from Valery about how disrespectful I am, and I'm toast.

“She’ll be trouble.” For a moment, Valery seems concerned.

I close my eyes and try to come up with a response that won’t get me in hot water. I can’t think of anything appropriate.

“I’ll be fine.” My voice is stiff, like my shoulders. Worry sneaks in. This is much more difficult than I had imagined.

“There you are,” Eric says as he steps into the kitchen. He stops and kisses Valery’s cheek and pats her on the head like she’s a dog.

Anger glides through me. I want more than what they have. “Can I help you with something?” I ask my dad, hiding my snark and anger.
